Finger Tricks for R and R’

Practise controlled right-layer movements.

Open 3D cube ↗

What you will learn

Stabilize the cube with the non-turning hand and rotate the right layer smoothly while keeping the upper layer aligned.

Before you begin

Set a clear front and upper face on your physical puzzle. If you are using the simulator, choose the appropriate cube size, then hold the same orientation before comparing moves. Review face-turn notation whenever a move symbol is unfamiliar.

01 · OBSERVE

Find the pieces or pattern

Stabilize the cube with the non-turning hand and rotate the right layer smoothly while keeping the upper layer aligned.

02 · PRACTISE

Try this short exercise

Try ten R R’ inverse pairs with no extra cube rotations.

03 · VERIFY

Check your result

Stop after the exercise and compare your real cube with the interactive 3D cube. Check neighboring face colors, not just the face closest to you. If the outcome differs, repeat slowly from a known position.

Common mistake to avoid

Consistent movement beats fast but imprecise turns.

Take the skill into your next solve

Apply this lesson during one deliberate practice solve. Describe what you see before moving, make only the move you intended, and check the result. Confidence with piece recognition and reliable turns matters more than repeating a long sequence quickly.
