First-Layer Corners: Find the Target Slot

Locate where each corner belongs.

Open 3D cube ↗

What you will learn

A corner contains three colors; its target location is where the three corresponding center faces meet.

Before you begin

Set a clear front and upper face on your physical puzzle. If you are using the simulator, choose the appropriate cube size, then hold the same orientation before comparing moves. Review face-turn notation whenever a move symbol is unfamiliar.

01 · OBSERVE

Find the pieces or pattern

A corner contains three colors; its target location is where the three corresponding center faces meet.

02 · PRACTISE

Try this short exercise

Choose a white-red-blue corner and identify the matching slot before moving it.

03 · VERIFY

Check your result

Stop after the exercise and compare your real cube with the interactive 3D cube. Check neighboring face colors, not just the face closest to you. If the outcome differs, repeat slowly from a known position.

Common mistake to avoid

Matching only the white sticker leads to a visually misleading first layer.

Take the skill into your next solve

Apply this lesson during one deliberate practice solve. Describe what you see before moving, make only the move you intended, and check the result. Confidence with piece recognition and reliable turns matters more than repeating a long sequence quickly.
