Middle Layer: Left or Right Insertion

Decide insertion direction from centers.

Open 3D cube ↗

What you will learn

Match the front-facing edge color with its center, then inspect the other sticker to choose whether the edge belongs on the left or the right.

Before you begin

Set a clear front and upper face on your physical puzzle. If you are using the simulator, choose the appropriate cube size, then hold the same orientation before comparing moves. Review face-turn notation whenever a move symbol is unfamiliar.

01 · OBSERVE

Find the pieces or pattern

Match the front-facing edge color with its center, then inspect the other sticker to choose whether the edge belongs on the left or the right.

02 · PRACTISE

Try this short exercise

Explain the destination before looking up the insertion sequence.

03 · VERIFY

Check your result

Stop after the exercise and compare your real cube with the interactive 3D cube. Check neighboring face colors, not just the face closest to you. If the outcome differs, repeat slowly from a known position.

Common mistake to avoid

Choosing the correct slot is separate from memorizing the insertion algorithm.

Take the skill into your next solve

Apply this lesson during one deliberate practice solve. Describe what you see before moving, make only the move you intended, and check the result. Confidence with piece recognition and reliable turns matters more than repeating a long sequence quickly.
