Yellow Cross: Dot Case Recognition

Identify the last-layer dot pattern.

Open 3D cube ↗

What you will learn

The dot case occurs when none of the yellow edge stickers face up, leaving only the yellow center visible from above.

Before you begin

Set a clear front and upper face on your physical puzzle. If you are using the simulator, choose the appropriate cube size, then hold the same orientation before comparing moves. Review face-turn notation whenever a move symbol is unfamiliar.

01 · OBSERVE

Find the pieces or pattern

The dot case occurs when none of the yellow edge stickers face up, leaving only the yellow center visible from above.

02 · PRACTISE

Try this short exercise

Compare the dot, line, L and cross cases side by side.

03 · VERIFY

Check your result

Stop after the exercise and compare your real cube with the interactive 3D cube. Check neighboring face colors, not just the face closest to you. If the outcome differs, repeat slowly from a known position.

Common mistake to avoid

A dot is a normal intermediate state, not a broken cube.

Take the skill into your next solve

Apply this lesson during one deliberate practice solve. Describe what you see before moving, make only the move you intended, and check the result. Confidence with piece recognition and reliable turns matters more than repeating a long sequence quickly.
