PLL Edge Recognition

Locate final edge cycles.

What you will learn

After last-layer corners are correctly positioned, inspect the upper edges against the side centers to identify remaining edge swaps or cycles.

Before you begin

Set a clear front and upper face on your physical puzzle. If you are using the simulator, choose the appropriate cube size, then hold the same orientation before comparing moves. Review face-turn notation whenever a move symbol is unfamiliar.

01 · OBSERVE

Find the pieces or pattern

After last-layer corners are correctly positioned, inspect the upper edges against the side centers to identify remaining edge swaps or cycles.

02 · PRACTISE

Try this short exercise

Look for one aligned top edge and note the positions of the others.

03 · VERIFY

Check your result

Stop after the exercise and compare your real cube with the interactive 3D cube. Check neighboring face colors, not just the face closest to you. If the outcome differs, repeat slowly from a known position.

Common mistake to avoid

One incorrectly viewed face can lead to a wrong PLL selection.

Take the skill into your next solve

Apply this lesson during one deliberate practice solve. Describe what you see before moving, make only the move you intended, and check the result. Confidence with piece recognition and reliable turns matters more than repeating a long sequence quickly.
