Every tutorial becomes easier when you can decode its symbols instantly. Keep this reference open beside the 3D trainer or print it for your next practice session.
Follow the lesson
Basic face letters
U = up, D = down, L = left, R = right, F = front and B = back.
Direction and prime
A plain letter means a clockwise turn viewed directly at that face. A prime mark, like R’, reverses that turn.
Half-turns
R2 is a 180-degree turn. A half-turn is the same physical result clockwise or counterclockwise.
Whole-cube rotations
x, y and z indicate rotating the entire cube around the right-left, up-down and front-back axes respectively.
Wide turns
Rw indicates turning the outer right layer and an adjacent inner layer together. Larger cubes often use these moves.
To read R U R’ U’, speak each symbol before executing it, and never change your front face accidentally.
Practise it on a real cube
Keep your physical cube in the same orientation as the instructions. Perform each face turn slowly, stop and check the stickers, then compare with the 3D trainer. Voice lessons can guide screen-based practice; physical cube moves are confirmed by the learner rather than checked by a camera.
How to know you are ready to move on
Repeat the exercise from a fresh starting position and explain what each turn is meant to accomplish. If the result differs from the target, go back to the earliest step you can verify instead of immediately starting over. Use cube notation whenever a move symbol feels unclear.
