The four-move trigger R U R’ U’ is one of the most useful building blocks in cube learning. It moves a small group of pieces and appears in beginner corner insertion and advanced methods.
Follow the lesson
Hold a consistent front
Pick a color to face you and keep it there. The letters refer to the faces of the cube, not left and right as seen by a moving camera.
Turn the right face upward
R is a clockwise quarter turn when viewed directly from the right face.
Turn the top clockwise
U turns the upper layer clockwise when viewed from above.
Undo right and top
R’ reverses the right move; U’ reverses the top move. Read prime as counterclockwise from that face.
Repeat slowly and observe
Try the trigger six times on a solved 3×3 to return to the starting state. Stop after each repetition and note the movement of the front-right corner.
Perform moves in order, not simultaneously. Start slowly on a physical cube, then copy them on the 3D trainer.
Practise it on a real cube
Keep your physical cube in the same orientation as the instructions. Perform each face turn slowly, stop and check the stickers, then compare with the 3D trainer. Voice lessons can guide screen-based practice; physical cube moves are confirmed by the learner rather than checked by a camera.
How to know you are ready to move on
Repeat the exercise from a fresh starting position and explain what each turn is meant to accomplish. If the result differs from the target, go back to the earliest step you can verify instead of immediately starting over. Use cube notation whenever a move symbol feels unclear.
