How to Practise an Algorithm Safely

Avoid losing your place during drills.

Open 3D cube ↗

What you will learn

Start from a known cube state, work one move at a time, and record your notation before repeating.

Before you begin

Set a clear front and upper face on your physical puzzle. If you are using the simulator, choose the appropriate cube size, then hold the same orientation before comparing moves. Review face-turn notation whenever a move symbol is unfamiliar.

01 · OBSERVE

Find the pieces or pattern

Start from a known cube state, work one move at a time, and record your notation before repeating.

02 · PRACTISE

Try this short exercise

Practise a sequence once then immediately apply its inverse.

03 · VERIFY

Check your result

Stop after the exercise and compare your real cube with the interactive 3D cube. Check neighboring face colors, not just the face closest to you. If the outcome differs, repeat slowly from a known position.

Common mistake to avoid

Only build speed once you can reliably return to the expected state.

Take the skill into your next solve

Apply this lesson during one deliberate practice solve. Describe what you see before moving, make only the move you intended, and check the result. Confidence with piece recognition and reliable turns matters more than repeating a long sequence quickly.
