Learn front and back face turns.

What you will learn

F turns the face closest to you; B turns the opposite face. Both use their own face-on viewpoint for clockwise direction.

Before you begin

Set a clear front and upper face on your physical puzzle. If you are using the simulator, choose the appropriate cube size, then hold the same orientation before comparing moves. Review face-turn notation whenever a move symbol is unfamiliar.

01 · OBSERVE

Find the pieces or pattern

F turns the face closest to you; B turns the opposite face. Both use their own face-on viewpoint for clockwise direction.

02 · PRACTISE

Try this short exercise

Turn F F’ and B B’ on a physical cube to confirm cancellation.

03 · VERIFY

Check your result

Stop after the exercise and compare your real cube with the interactive 3D cube. Check neighboring face colors, not just the face closest to you. If the outcome differs, repeat slowly from a known position.

Common mistake to avoid

The back face often feels reversed when seen from the front.

Take the skill into your next solve

Apply this lesson during one deliberate practice solve. Describe what you see before moving, make only the move you intended, and check the result. Confidence with piece recognition and reliable turns matters more than repeating a long sequence quickly.
